The moment has finally come and now it´s time to get our altar together. The kids usually come with me. They´re in charge of choosing the sugar skulls that represent each loved one that has left us. I like the fact that there seems to be a reason behind each sugar skull, and that, even though they all look alike, Giaco and Gala seem to know who is who, and why.
Por fin ha llegado el momento y es hora de armar nuestro altar. Los chicos normalmente me acompañan. Ellos están a cargo de escoger las calaveritas de azúcar que representan cada ser amado que ya no está con nosotros. Me encanta el hecho de que parece haber lógica detrás de cada calaverita que escogen, y que, a pesar de que todos parecen ser iguales, Giaco y Gala saben quién es quién y porqué.
You can´t have an altar in all it´s beauty and splendor, even if it´s a small, simple one like ours, without "zempasuchitl".No puedes tener un altar hermoso y brillante, aunque sea un altar pequeño y sencillo como el nuestro, sin zempasuchitl.
Giaco really takes the altar seriousely. He loves being in charge and knows who gets the candy, who gets the wine, etc... We fill the altar with food and drink that were favorite to our loved ones, we fill it with bright flowers (zempasuchitl) and candles to "light the way home". Each sugar skull represents people we loved and wish to remember with all this color and festivity.

Le encanta estar a cargo de cosas y sabe a quien le tocan los dulces, a quien el vino, etc... Llenamos el altar con el alimento y la bebida favorita de nuestro seres queridos, zempasuchtitl y prendemos velas para "iluminar el camino a casa". Cada calaverita representa a alguien amado que deseamos recordar con todo esta festividad y color.
