Book Bag / Bolsón para Cuadernos

School starts next week. Yikes! I barely have anything done, so I´m on high speed. Ifinished Giaco´s Book Bag and on to Gala´s Mini Backpack...wish me luck!

La escuela empieza la semana que entra. ¡Ay! Prácticamente no he logrado nada, así que ahora voy a todo motor. Terminé el Bolsón de de Cuadernos de Giaco y comienzo la Mini Mochila de Gala... ¡deséenme suerte!

I used a thick denim fabric for this bag..and added one of Giaco´s designs in a recycled t shirt fabric on the front.

Usé una mezclilla gruesa para esta bolsa. Añadí uno de los diseños de Giaco a la parte frontal, utilizando una playera reciclada.

The lining is made from checkered cotton fabric and I added double fabric to the exterior of the bag on the bottom.

El forro esta hecho de un algodón a cuadros y usé doble mezclilla para la parte de abajo de la bolsa por fuera.

Double reinforcement on the shoulder strap and I recycled a cardboard box, covered it in fabric and placed it in the base of the bag to give it a more shapely form.

Doble refuerzo en el tirante y reciclé una caja de cartón, la cual forré de tela, y coloqué en el fondo de la bolsa para darle más firmeza a la forma.

Floor Cushion Fancy / Cojín de Piso

This floor cushion is larger than the last one. I wanted to make something comfy for girly-girl to curl up and read a Peter Rabbit book in. (Inspired by Living With Punks Floor Cushion Tutorial. Yay for Susan! Thanks again!)

Este cojín de piso es más grande que el anterior. Quise hacer algo cómodo para que nena se pudiera acurrucar a leer un libro. (Inspirado por el tutorial de cojín de piso de Living With Punks. ¡Gracias Susan!)

RAINY DAY BOOTS REFAB / REMODELANDO BOTAS DE LLUVIA

These are what in Mexico we call botas de jardinero (gardener boots). Not the most stylish thing that can be seen on your feet, but boy do they keep em´dry! These are Giaco´s muddy gardener boots before the refab.

Estas son lo que en México llamamos botas de jardinero. No son la cosa más estética que puedes traer en los pies, pero eso si, ¡secos los mantiene! Estas son las lodosas botas de jardinero de Giaco antes de la remodelada.

All I did was cut the top off. They are WAY too long for a little man to be runnin´around in. Plus they are suuuper easy to cut. Just put them on (yourself or your little person, depends on who´s getting the refab) and draw a line where they feel the most comfy (on only 1 boot). Take them off, measure from the ground to where the line is, and repeat on the other boot. Cut away!

Todo lo que hice fue cortar la parte de arriba. Son demaciado largas para que un chamaquit@ ande corriendo por ahí. Además, es super fácil cortarlos. Solo pónselos (o pontelos tu si eres el beneficiario de la remodelada) y dibuja una línea donde los sientas más cómodos (en solo 1 bota). Quítaselos, mide del piso hasta la línea y repite la medida y el trazo en la otra bota. ¡A cortar!

They don´t have to be perfect...and I´m not just saying this to make myself feel better about how crooked these ended up. Now you´re going to look for, or buy, a pair of cool lookin´socks...waaaay bigger the foot that will live in the boot (now I just sound plain old weird... hang in there). If this were for a girl, man, I would have gone crrrazy, but my son wanted me to control my need for color and keep it simple.

No tiene que quedar perfecto... y no lo estoy diciendo solo para consolarme por lo chueco que quedaron estos. Ahora vas a buscar o comprar un par de calzetines con estilacho... muuucho más grandes que el pie que habitará la bota (ahora si sueno como loca, tengan paciencia). Si estas botas fueran para nena, hombre, me hubiera vuelto LOCA, peeeero, mi hijo me pidió que contuviera mi necesidad de color. Sencillito y carismático.Turn the sock inside out and slip it into the boot. Hold it down as best you can from the toe area, and pull (sometimes it´s just easier to put the sock on the kid BEFORE the boot). Fold the sock over the top of the boot and send kiddo off to jump in a puddle or something. YAY!

Voltéa el calzetín al reverso y mételo en la bota con una mano. Con la otra fíjalo lo mejor que puedas, apretando la punta de la bota por la parte exterior y retira la mano (o, ponle el calzetín al chamac@, ANTES de ponerle la bota). Doble el calzetín por encima de la parte cortada de la bota y mandal@ a brincar en un charco o algo así. ¡Yupiiii!

CHANGING MAT 4 BABY / ALMOHADILLA PARA CAMBIAR PAÑALES

This changing mat (or pad) was made on one of the worst of so many rainy days we´ve had. This makes picture taking rather difficult, it looks like it´s 5 am all day long. Sorry... So enough of my hurricane season angst:

I made this mat skipping the plastic part, just cause there is no way for me to find renewable, earth friendly plastic around these parts. So I made one side with cotton, for warm days. The other side I made with a warm pink fleece. I remember feeling awful when my babies would cringe when changing their diapers on a plastic changing mat during winter. Popsicle Bum!

Esta almohadilla para cambiar a bebé fué hecha en uno de los peores días de lluvia que tánto abundan últimamente. Esto dificulta mucho el tomar fotos, parece las 5 de la mañana todo el día. Una disculpa... Ok. Suficiente de mi angustia de temporada de huracán:

Hice esta almohadilla evitando el plástico. No hay manera de encontrar plástico renovable y amable al ambiente por estos lares. Así que fabriqué un lado con algodón, para días calurosos. El otro lado lo hice con un suave vellón rosa. Recuerdo sentirme tan mal cuando mis bebés se estremecían de frío al cambiarlos sobre plástico durante el invierno. ¡Pompis Paleta de Hielo!

Fin de Semana de Celebración: Regalo #3I´m aware I may be going overboared with the stripes, but boy am I having fun, and not spending a dime! I used stashed away buttons for the eyes and an old cushion to fill in Mr. Monster. I just wanna kiss him!

Estoy consciente de que puede que me esté pasando de la raya con las rayas, pero ¡sí que me estoy divirtiendo, y sin gastar un peso! Usé botones olvidados para os ojos y un cojín viejo para relenar al Señor Monstruo. ¡Me lo quiero agarrar a besos!

Baby Sling with Edge / Rebozo Roquero

Celebration Weekend: Present #2

Fin de Semana de Celebración: Regalo #2 My very pregnant friend and I are used to using what we call "rebozo". It is traditionally used to carry babies here in Mexico. The problem is the knot can become somewhat uncomfortable after a while. I decided to make her a cool looking, comfortable sling to use this time around... I made it in a very soft, stretchy cotton fabric that makes me think "Where is Wally?". She´s having a home birth again and KILLING me with the fact that she doesn´t want to know if it´s a girl or boy until he or she pops out! So I figured I would play it safe and go with stripes. Hope she likes it!

Mi muy embarazada amiga y yo estamos acostumbradas a usar rebozo para cargar a nuestros pequeños y no tan pequeños bebés. El problema es que el nudo puede llegar a incomodar después de un rato. Decidí hacerle un "rebozo" práctico y roquero para bebé #2... lo hice en un algodón muy suave con stretch que me recuerda a "¿Dónde está Wally?". Va a volver a tener parto en casa y me está MATANDO con aquello de dejar el sexo de bebé un gran misterio (sabe que odio no tener control de TODO, y si está leyendo esto, puedo apostar que esta soltando esa risita de brujita traviesa). Así que decidí irme por lo seguro con las rayas. ¡Espero que le guste!

Again, zero expense. I had the fabric in my stash of faves, and the belts are from a pair of pant legs... I know, weird thing to have on pant legs, right? Yep, I cut them right off.

Nuevamente, cero gasto. La tela ya la tenía en mi torre de telas favoritas y los cinturones son de las piernas de unos pantalones...lo sé, medio raro tener eso en las piernas de tus pantalones, ¿verdad? Sipi, los arranqué de tajo.

1.I totally depended on Jen form Canadian Rhapsody to pull this one off. I used her easy and simple version and had the laptop glued to my forehead the whole time. It´s been soooo long since I made a sling (10 years!). Thanks SO much Jen!
