I walked into Zara the other day and by the time I left, I was sad. How depressing! Why should I feel bad because I can´t buy myself something beautiful? Why do I fall in love with something such as a piece of clothing? Is this a female trait? I asked myself all these things and then decided, as I have many times, to lift myself out of this state of self pity, and head straight to the fabric store.

Entré a Zara el otro día. Salí triste. ¡Que deprimente! ¿Porqué debería entristecerme por no poderme comprar algo hermoso? ¿Cómo es que me enamoro de algo como una prenda de vestir? ¿Es esto, acaso, una característica femenina? Me cuestioné todo esto y decidí, como hago muchas veces, levantarme de mi estado de auto-conmiseración e irme directo a la tienda de telas.

There I found this simple yet exquisite cotton rayon. It drapes beautifully and is SO soft! I bought only 1 yard, crossing my fingers and hoping this would be enough for what I had in mind: a romper for mamita. I made it!

Ahí encontré un rayón de algodón hermoso. Tiene una suavidad y una caída exquisita. Compré solo 1 metro y crucé los dedos, esperando que me alcanzara para realizar la idea que tenía en mente: un peto para mamá. ¡Lo logré!

Simple As Summer Can Get

Sencillito en el Calorcito

I started to play around with a left over piece of fabric. I wanted to make a real quick summer dress for G. You see, for me, once you reach the temperatures we´re reaching, under the circumstances we´re living (no air conditioning and houses built in a way that seem to attract heat like a magnet) spring is no longer a word that should be used. This would only imply that this "warm weather" is only going to intensify as soon as summer officially kicks in, and that would drive me to panic.

Comencé a jugar con este retazo de rayón. Quería hacerle un MUY sencillo vestidito de verano a G. Verás, para mi, una ves alcanzadas las temperaturas en las que estamos, y bajo las circunstancias que vivimos (cero aire acondicionado y construcciones que parecen atraer el calor como un imán) la palabra "primavera" debería ser prohibida. Usarla solo implicaría que el calor va a aumentar en cuanto llegue el verano y eso, señores, me llevaría al pánico.

So, here I was looking at this rectangular piece of soft fabric and thinking how I could create something fresh and cute in 15 minutes (cause that was how patient I felt at that particular moment). This is what I came up with.

Así me encontraba, mirando este pequeño retazo de tela suave y pensando cómo podría crear algo fresco y coqueto en 15 minutos (porque así de paciente me sentía en ese momento en particular). Esto es lo que inventé.

This was so easy to make I was thinking I might like to turn this into a quick tutorial once we got back from the beach (1 week starting Monday)... but I wanted to see what you guys thought...anyone up for a fun summer tute (that can easily be turned into a cute dress for mommy! yay!)?

Esto fue tan fácil de hacer que pensé que lo podría convertir en un tutorial una vez que regresemos de la playa (de este lunes en 8)... pero quería saber, qué opinan ustedes... ¿se les antoja un divertido tutorial de verano (¡que puede convertirse fácilmente en un vestidito para la mamita coqueta! ¡sí!)?

Sometimes I get so caught up with life and my dreams of designing, that I seem to forget that it all started here:

The day I found out I had a little girl in my big fat belly, I started to sew endless funny stuff for a funky little princess. And for a while now, she´s been patiently waiting for her #1 designer to come back from God knows where. So this time she got the first version of Lukuma´s latest boho-blouse, thanking her for her patience and support.

¡Te amo mamita linda!

Mi bebé. Mi inspiración.

El día que me enteré que tenía una nenita viviendo en mi gran panzota, comenzé a cocer infinitas cositas chisotsas para una princesita con personalidad. Y por un rato ya, ella ha estado pacientemente esperando a que su diseñadora #1 regrese de quien sabe donde. Así que esta vez recibió el primera versión de la última blusita bohemia de Lukuma, agradeciendo su paciencia y apoyo.
