love & education / amor y educación

My husband and I, as parents, chose a Montessori education for our children.
Finding the right Montessori school wasn´t easy, but I´m happy to say we have. We´re happy and at peace with our decision. But most importantly, our beautifuls are happy and at peace with the "other half" of their lives.

I mean, think about it, they spend half their day at school, 5 days a week, add it up! This means the affective, learning and social experiences they encounter at school is almost half of what they will retain from their entire childhood.

So, adding up is what has made us take this part so seriously. If we want our children to learn how to be indepedent, creative, responsible beings, aware of what surrounds them, and capable of finding solutions; beings that learn to love to learn to love...and on it goes...well then, we need help.

For us, what we teach at home must be consistent with what they learn at school.
Sometimes I think, there are soooo many things that matter. So many things I pay attention to as a mom, that it can at times seem overwhelming. But I´ve found that I have simply found ways of incorporating this into my every day life without questioning how much "easier" life would be if we were "normal". "Normal" is not an option if it can cause damage.

Yes, it can be complicated at times, but not having to swim against the current as far as school goes, definitely helps. I don´t have to work twice as hard trying to "reteach" my kids whenever they get back from school asking for a chocolate bar, a soda, asking why they can´t have an i-phone while heading straight for the TV.

For us it´s important that our children learn responsibility with heart: how to take care of others, take care of their own bodies, minds, souls, their surroundings, their home, planet, etc...

And yes, this starts at home, but consistency takes what mom and dad teach a looong way.

For me, building a home for my children, educating, feeding and raising them, is an act of love.

Time flies. Kids grow so fast. I chose to be a mom. More than choose, I asked for it with all my heart. Being a mom implies a lot, and I plan to enjoy every moment of it, even the not so fun parts, because behind all the caos and the hard bits, there still are no words to explain how much larger my heart has become because of my beautiful family:
bendiciones.

blessings.

  1. That's awesome Claudia! Your kids seem very happy. I was always curious about a Montessori School for Lily. We choose to homeschool her for kinder, but she will be going to school once a week. Public schools here are terrible which is so sad:( How are schools in Mexico? And do parents homeschool in Mexico?

  2. Hey Yoly!
I´m sure there must be parents here that homeschool, but it´s not that common. The down side to living in Mexico is that public Eduction is NOT AN OPTION. The upside: alternative education is affrodable. i´m not gonna say cheap, but definitely more accesible than what I hear about the US. So I guess that´s why homeschooling isn´t as common. My husband and I have talked about it, but considering they have a good school, we think the social part is important. But I am now officially so your biggest fan! I truly admire mommies that home school and think that it can be a beautiful experience, especially when the options that surround you leave that being the best option... BIG HUG! tell me how it goes! Clau

    Clau
