Frida Skirt Presents: "Mexican Treasures" / Falda Frida Presenta: "Tesoros Mexicanos"

I have been blessed with deep love and respect for 2 countries. The one I was born in (Peru), and the one that took my family in many, many years ago (Mexico). I was raised to love and treasure the ethinicity of my native country, but it has taken time for me to take in and love this "new" country just as much. My husband is the one to blame for this wonderful love affair I now have with Mexico.

In my search for a healthy, natural way of life, I have turned to Mexico´s roots. And now, I´ve decided to share with all you wonderful people, the reason why I love this country so. This will be the first of what I hope will be a series of posts on "Mexican Treasures". "Provechito"!

¡Provechito! The Frida Skirt takes us for a walk through the cobblestone streets of Tepoztlan. We live only 20 minutes away from this magical little town. It is best known for it´s weekend "tianguis" where you can find all types of hindu clothing and lot´s of tourists. But we like coming to walk around on week days, when the streets are empty and you can see the true Mexico shine brightly through, even when it´s cloudy...like today.

Every chance we get, we go in search of "old school- healthy toys". My kids love them. And so do I. They take us back to basics, and we learn how much fun we can have with really "very little".

Jugando al trompo con papito.I love their size, the fact that they are made out of wood and handpainted!

Twirl and spin!

¡Gira y gira!We sat in the garden of the over 400 year old ex-convent to play and talk... until it began to rain. Then pour.

We ran and slipped into the first little "coffee shop" we found... and, oh my! Just when I thought I knew this place inside out, I discover CACAO. I am pleasantly surprised to say the least...

Adoré:1.The fact that they used a chocolate-brown all over, intelligently matching it with "rosa mexicano"(that pink you look at and think: Mexico).

2.Their beautiful desserts, and how they exquisitely display them.

2.Sus exquisítos postres y la hermosa manera de exponerlos.3.Their warm colors... it all feels like home.

3.Sus colores cálidos... se siente como casa.4.Their pride and knowledge of Mexican culture and confectionary...

4.Su orgullo y conocimiento de la cultura y repostería mexicana...5.Having so many ways to enjoy cocoa.

5.Tener tántas maneras de disfrutar del cacao.6.The fact that we could all eat ´till our bellies popped, knowing it was all natural.

COCOA: THE SWEET TASTE OF NATURE

CACAO: EL DULCE SABOR DE LA NATURALEZA´Till next time!
PS: Gala fell fast asleep in the car, with a chocolate stained face and a peaceful little smile.
