Wedding Creations 1: Boys Vest Tutorial / Creaciones de Boda 1: Tutorial Chaleco de Niño

My little sis is getting married in less than a month...ahhh! I´m sowing my socks off, and will be posting as much as I possibly can. Wish me luck! So, I´m starting off with my son and his wedding outfit. This look I LOVE. Good thing is, so does my mini man! Where we live, the heat is really starting to kick in, so I figured I´d reduce the outfit to pants, vest, white shirt and bowtie...oh, and a mohawk of course. Here goes an easy-peasy vest tutorial and the actual pictures of Giaco in his outfit will come later... enjoy!

Mi hermanita se casa en menos de un mes...¡ahhh! Estoy cociendo como loca y estaré posteando todo lo que me sea posible. ¡Deséenme suerte! Comenzaré con mi hijo y su atuendo de boda. Este es un look que me ENCANTA. Lo bueno es que a mi hombrecito también le gusta! Donde vivimos el calor ya comienza a pegar, así decidí reducir su atuendo a solo pantalón, camisa, chaleco y corbata de moño... ah, y su mohawk por supuesto. Aquí va el tutorial super fácil del chaleco, y las fotos de Giaco con su atuendo vendrán después...¡disfruten!

This is a quick sketch I made while I took measurements (which only reminds me why my son is the one that draws and not me). I was able to design my own pattern. What to do:

After you´ve finished measuring, trace vest onto newspaper, following the basic idea of what you see here. Make sure the shoulder lines tilt slightly downward. After you´ve traced the front, fold in half, shoulder to shoulder, just to make sure your pattern is simetric. Cut off any excess newspaper. Once you´ve traced the back of the vest, place front over back and make sure the shoulders and arm holes line up. Once again cut off excess newspaper. Pin each piece (you should have 3) onto 2 different fabrics, front facing. Cut, leaving "sowing space". I leave about an inch.

Este es un sketch rápido que hice mientras tomaba medidas (lo cual solo me recuerda porqué mi hijo es el que dibuja y no yo). Pude diseñar mi propio patrón. Qué hacer:

Después que ha terminado de medir, traza el chaleco sobre periódico, siguiendo la idea básica de lo que vez a continuación. Asegura que las líneas de los hombros estén ligeramente inclinadas. Después de que hayas trazado el frente, dobla por la mitad, hombro con hombro, para asegurar que tu patrón esté simétrico. Corta para emparejar. Una vez trazada la espalda, sobrepon las piezas del frente con el de la espalda para confirmar que los hombros y los brazos estén alineados. Nuevamente, corta cualquier exceso de periódico. Asegura cada pieza con alfileres (debes tener 3 piezas) sobre dos diferentes modelos de tela que estén acomodados anverso con anverso. Corta, dejando espacio para cocer. Suelo dejar como medio centímetro.


Unpin paper and sow all sides together EXCEPT for shoulders and outer sides. Zig zag edges and turn right side out. It should look something like this for the front:

Retira los alfileres y coce todos los lados EXCEPTO los hombros y los lados externos. Zig zagea los bordes y voltea. El frente debe verse algo como esto:

And this is what the back piece should look like:

Y así se debe ver la pieza de la espalda:

Notice how sides and shoulders have not been sown.

Nota como los lados y los hombros no han sido cocidos.

Now you have your 3 pieces:

Ahora tienes tus 3 piezas:Pin together on the sides and shoulder right sides facing. Sew together only where you have pinned. Iron, turn right side out.

Fija con alfileres por los lados y los hombros, anverso con anverso. Coce únicamente donde hayas colocado los alfileres. Plancha y voltea.

...and finally, I added this detail to the back. It´s really easy to make and gives it more of a vest feel. I´d be happy to post a mini tutorial for this...so if anyone´s interested, just give me a holler!
