Mamita ♥´s Lauren Moffat. Her Spring 2012 collection is absolutely dee-vine! I couldn´t help but put together my own DIY version of this blue beauty!

Measurements needed:
1. your bust measurement
2. the length from right below your armpit to right below your bust
3. length from right below your bust to your knees (we´ll be using this measurement at the end)
4. measure the length you want for your straps
** add 1 inch to all these measurements

Medidas necesarias:
1. circunferencia de pecho
2. largo de justo debajo de tu axila a justo debajo del pecho
3. largo de justo debajo del pecho a las rodillas (estaremos usando esta medida hasta el final)
4. mide el largo que quieres para tus tirantes
** suma 2cm a todas estas medidas


Now you will need 3 pieces of fabric to make the top section. You will calculate their measurements as follows:

♥ bust measurement divided by 2 = width for front 1 & 2
♥ length from armpit to right below bust = length for front 1 & 2 and length for back section
♥ bust measurement divided by 2 = X
X divided by 2= Y
X+Y= back
(in other words: you will need 1 and a half times the length of fabric used for the front to make the back section)

♥ a small square in a contrasting color of aprox 8 x 8 inches (this WILL vary depending on your bust size... my bust size has been the same since I was 13 years old, so bare with me and please don´t laugh.)

♥ colorful binding (I also used navy blue binding for the shoulder straps)


Ahora necesitarás 3 piezas de telapara crear la pieza de la pechera. Calcularás sus medidas de la siguiente manera:

♥ circunferencia de pecho entre 2 = ancho de piezas frente 1 y 2
♥ medida de debajo de la axila a justo debajo del pecho = largo de piezas frontales 1 & 2 y pieza de espalda
♥ medida pecho entre 2 = X
X entre 2 = Y
X+Y= espalda
(en otras palabras: necesitarás una y media veces el largo de tela necesaria para el frente para crear la parte trasera)

♥ un cuadrado de tela de color contrastante de aproximadamente 22 x 22 cm (esta medida sin duda variará dependiendo de tu medida de pecho... mi pecho ha medido lo mismo desde que tengo 13 años... asi que improvisen un poco... y eviten reírse porfavor)

♥ bies colorido (también usé bies azúl marino para los tirantes del vestido)

♥ take your square piece of contrasting fabric and, helping yourself with a ruler, trace an X from corner to corner (I used seamstress chalk, you can use any kind of chalk)
♥ following the lines: cut
♥ keep only the right and left triangles (we won´t be using the bottom and top ones)


♥ toma tu pieza de tela cuadrada y , con ayuda de una regla, traza una X de esquina a esquina (usé gis de sastre, pero puedes usar cualquier tipo de gis)
♥ siguiendo las líneas: corta
♥ quedate con solo los triángulos de la derecha e izquierda (no estaremos utilizando las de arriba y abajo)

♥ centra y fija los triángulos con alfileres
♥ fíjate que la distancia de la orilla de los triángulos a cada extrema mida lo mismo

♥ zig-zag stitch all the way around your triangles attatching them to front #1

♥ fija los triángulos a la tela del frente #1 con costura de zig-zag

♥ cover up these ugly stitches with the strips of your colorful binding
♥ sew close to the edge

♥ cubre estas costuras feas con tiras de tu bies colorido
♥ cose cerca de las orillas

♥ now grab your 2 front pieces...

♥ ahora toma tus 2 piezas frontales...

♥ place the straps over front #1 and place front #2 on top (fronts facing)
♥ pin the 2 fabrics together at the top holding the straps carefully in place
♥ sew only the top

♥ coloca los tirantes encima de la pieza frontal #1 y después coloca la pieza frontal #2 encima (frente con frente)
♥ fija las piezas con alfileres por la parte de arriba sujetando bien los tirantes
♥ cose solo la parte superior

♥ voltéa y plancha

now for the back:
♥ shir the whole back section (great tute HERE). I chose to only shir the top and bottom. You can shir it all if you want. Me? Too lazy.
♥ this is what is should look like from the back of the fabric. The front should show only the color of thread you´ve chosen to use.

ahora para la espalda:
♥ frunce con elástico toda la pieza trasera (tutorial bueno AQUÍ). Escogí solo fruncir la parte de arriba y abajo. Lo puedes hacer el la pieza completa si gustas. ¿Yo? Demasiado floja.
♥ así es como se debe ver tu pieza trasera desde el revés. Desde el frente solo se debe el color del hilo que hayas escogido usar.

♥ Now you will pin the front and back section together by the sides, but before sewing, try it on (careful with the pins) just to make sure the top has a snug fit. The back should stretch just enough to make it comfortable.
♥ You might need to cut a bit of excess fabric off the back. That´s fine. Better to have left over fabric at the edges than too little.

♥ Ahora fijarás con alfileres la parte trasera con la parte frontal por los lados, pero antes de coser, pruébatelo (cuidado con los alfileres) solo para asegurarte que la pechera quede cómodamente. La espalda se deberá estirar solo lo suficiente para que quede ajustado de manera cómoda.
♥ Puede ser que necesites cortar un poco de tela de los costados de la parte trasera. Está bien. Es mejor que sobre un poco de tela a que falte.
♥ una ves que estés segura que te queda perfecto, cose la orillas
♥ termina las orillas con zig-zag

Now for the skirt section:

♥ length: use measurement #3
♥ width: bust measurement divided by 2 = X
X + bust measurement = skirt width
(in other words: you will need 1 and a half times the length of fabric used for the entire top for the skirt width)

Ahora para la sección de la falda:

♥ largo: use medida #3
♥ ancho: medida circunferencia pecho dividido entre 2 = X

X + circunferencia pecho = ancho de falda
(en otras palabras: necesitarás 1 y media veces el largo de tela utilizado para todo la pechera para el ancho de la falda)
♥ cose el costado de la falda, terminando las orillas con zig-zag
♥ cose la bastilla de la parte inferior de la falda

♥ now ruffle: tute HERE

♥ ahora frunce la parte superior de la falda sólo por el frente: tutorial AQUÍ

♥ sew along the edge, joining the top with the skirt
♥ sew the front section first taking the pins out as you go
♥ when you get to the back section pull at the top (the shirred part of the top) until the length of the skirt and top match
♥ finish sewing all around as you pull
♥ zig-zag the edges
♥ sew the loose ends of the straps to the back (twice each side for extra hold)

♥ desliza la pechera por encima de la falda, frente con frente, emparejando la orilla inferior de la pechera con la orilla superior de la falda
♥ fija solo la parte frontal con alfileres
♥ cose al borde, uniéndo la falda con la pechera
♥ cose la parte frontal primero, retirando los alfileres conforme vayas avanzando
♥ cuando llegues a la parte trasera, jala la pechera (la parte fruncida con elástico) hasta que el largo de la falda y la pechera se emparejen

Glamificando Ganchos de Ropa

Necesitarás:

*ganchos de ropa que depriman y entristezcan la vista

*pistola de silicón

*tiras de retazos de tela

You´ll need:

¡Vuélvete loc@ rasgando en tiras tus retazos de tela de todos los colores y sabores!

Primera gota de silicón:

Sostén la tela encima hasta que seque el silicón...¡sin quemarte porfavor!

careful: HOT!

Ahora:

Coloca la siguiente gota de silicón y envuelve la tela, procurando tapar el borde del inicio de tu tira. Coloca otra gota de silicón, y envuelve la tela alrededor del gancho. Repite esto pasos envolviendo todo el gancho. Cuando se termine una tira de tela, comienza con otra (de la misma manera) ¡pero experimenta contrastando con distintas telas y colores!

Repeat these steps until you´ve wrapped the entire coat hanger. Try mixing and matching different fabrics!

Some clothes just need to hang pretty (or maybe all clothes!)

Off to the Beach To-Do List / Cositas de Playa por Hacer

The family and I are off to the beach in about 2 weeks... So I have that off to the beach to do list I´ve had stored for way too long... and it´s coming out!

La familia y yo nos vamos para la playa en como 2 semanas... así que tengo que sacar esa lista de cosas por hacer que he tenido guardada tanto tiempo... y ponerme a trabajar!

The weather where we live is ridiculously hot. I found this amazing free PDF pattern and tutorial over at The Fabric Worm and loved it the second

I saw it. I´ve been wanting to get to it, I can´t stand the heat anymore, and this is the perfect little outfit for those moments I wish I could walk around in my underwear all day (basically everyday). So now is when. We´re leaving soon and I need to get my family sewing in gear!

El clima donde vivimos se ha vuelto ridículamente caliente. Encontré este increíble tutorial con patrón en The Fabric Worm, y me enamoré el instante que lo vi. He querido ponerme a hacerlo, el calor es insoportable, y este es el trajecito perfecto para esos momentos donde desearía poder caminar en calzones por todos lados (osea, diario) Así que ahora es cuando. ¡Nos vamos pronto y necesito meterle motor a mis proyectos!

I´ve really been wanting to make up some funky bikinis for some time now, never had the nerve though. I´ve always considered it to be something way out of my league...so I never even tried.

Hace tiempo que he tenido ganas de inventarme unos bikinis con personalidad, pro nunca he tenido el valor. Siempre lo he considerado algo fuera de mi nivel y capacidad... así que jamás lo he intentado.

G and I really need some new swim stuff, so I will now tackle my fears and start creating, considering buying swim suits in Mexico is equivalent to buying fancy jewlery. So with the help a few tutorials I hope to come out victorious and funky! I honestly don´t really know if I´ll have the time or talent to get this all done, but I´ll sure try. Wish me luck!

G y yo realmente necesitamos cosas para la playa, así que tomaré el toro por los cuernos y comenzaré a crear, motivada por el hecho que un buen traje de baño en México cuesto como joyería. Así que con la ayuda de unos cuantos tutoriales, espero salir victorioso y con estilo. Realmente no se si vaya a tener el tiempo o el talento para lograrlo, pero lo intentaré. ¡Deséenme suerte!

Valentine´s T: A TUTORIAL / Playerota de San Valentín: EL TUTORIAL

How to:

Fold fabric over and trace the following lines with fabric pencil (or any old pen) following the measurements below. The letters will guide you through, following your girly´s size. They are in both inches and centimeters. The first fabric will be the front. Repeat the same procedure for the back. Make the front neckline slightly deeper than the back. I used jersey fabric and sew the sides together with a smaller zig-zag stitch since I don´t have an "over" machine. When you´ve finished putting the T together, fold over and zig-zag stitch the sleeves, neckline and bottom of the T. If you want to add details or "fun stuff" do this before putting the T together. Have fun!

¿Qué hacer?:

Dobla tu tela y traza las siguientes líneas con lápiz de costura (cualquier pluma sirve también) siguiendo las medidas que vienen debajo de la imágen. Las letras te guiarán. Sigue las medidas de tu nena, las encontrarás tanto en centimetros como en pulgadas. La primera tela que trazarás y cortarás será el frente. Repite el procedimiento con la segunda tela, ésta será la parte de atrás. Has el corte del cuello del frente más profundo que el de atrás. Yo usé tela de playera y uní los costados con una puntada de zig-zag a falta de máquina "over". Cuando termines de armar la playera, dobla y coce los bordes de las mangas, cuello y bastilla. Si quieres añadir detalles o algo divertido, hazlo antes de armar la playera. ¡Experimenta y diviértete!

THE PRINCESS PROJECT / EL PROYECTO PRINCESA

NOVEMBER: Birthday month for my princess. So this time around I´m hoping to turn an old T and some left over tulle into her princess dress, AND share the process with you all. Wish me luck...I´ll be needing it!

RAINY DAY BOOTS REFAB / REMODELANDO BOTAS DE LLUVIA

These are what in Mexico we call botas de jardinero (gardener boots). Not the most stylish thing that can be seen on your feet, but boy do they keep em´dry! These are Giaco´s muddy gardener boots before the refab.

Estas son lo que en México llamamos botas de jardinero. No son la cosa más estética que puedes traer en los pies, pero eso si, ¡secos los mantiene! Estas son las lodosas botas de jardinero de Giaco antes de la remodelada.

All I did was cut the top off. They are WAY too long for a little man to be runnin´around in. Plus they are suuuper easy to cut. Just put them on (yourself or your little person, depends on who´s getting the refab) and draw a line where they feel the most comfy (on only 1 boot). Take them off, measure from the ground to where the line is, and repeat on the other boot. Cut away!

Todo lo que hice fue cortar la parte de arriba. Son demaciado largas para que un chamaquit@ ande corriendo por ahí. Además, es super fácil cortarlos. Solo pónselos (o pontelos tu si eres el beneficiario de la remodelada) y dibuja una línea donde los sientas más cómodos (en solo 1 bota). Quítaselos, mide del piso hasta la línea y repite la medida y el trazo en la otra bota. ¡A cortar!

They don´t have to be perfect...and I´m not just saying this to make myself feel better about how crooked these ended up. Now you´re going to look for, or buy, a pair of cool lookin´socks...waaaay bigger the foot that will live in the boot (now I just sound plain old weird... hang in there). If this were for a girl, man, I would have gone crrrazy, but my son wanted me to control my need for color and keep it simple.

No tiene que quedar perfecto... y no lo estoy diciendo solo para consolarme por lo chueco que quedaron estos. Ahora vas a buscar o comprar un par de calzetines con estilacho... muuucho más grandes que el pie que habitará la bota (ahora si sueno como loca, tengan paciencia). Si estas botas fueran para nena, hombre, me hubiera vuelto LOCA, peeeero, mi hijo me pidió que contuviera mi necesidad de color. Sencillito y carismático.Turn the sock inside out and slip it into the boot. Hold it down as best you can from the toe area, and pull (sometimes it´s just easier to put the sock on the kid BEFORE the boot). Fold the sock over the top of the boot and send kiddo off to jump in a puddle or something. YAY!

Voltéa el calzetín al reverso y mételo en la bota con una mano. Con la otra fíjalo lo mejor que puedas, apretando la punta de la bota por la parte exterior y retira la mano (o, ponle el calzetín al chamac@, ANTES de ponerle la bota). Doble el calzetín por encima de la parte cortada de la bota y mandal@ a brincar en un charco o algo así. ¡Yupiiii!
