Vintage meets Silly / Vintage vs Ridícula

I wanted to share my latest recycling adventure (I turned a vintage tablecloth I´ve been saving for years now, but was too stained too use, into a poncho-blouse with THIS wonderful tutorial + some adjustments). What better way to do it than being silly with my best friend? You might ask yourself, did we not have anything better to do on a Friday morning?.... I don´t know, work, do the laundry, wash dishes, get a passport renewed...something? NOPE. I consider smiling a priority (plus she got off from work early and I had already done the dishes... although I REALLY need to get that passport renewed!...so, bla, here goes some silly mamitas).

Quería compartir mi última aventura reciclada (convertí un mantel vintage que he estado guardando por años, pero estaba demasiado manchado para usar, en una blusa tipo poncho usando ESTE lindo tutorial + algunos ajustes). ¿Qué mejor manera de hacerlo que ejerciéndo mi derecho a ser ridícula con mi mejor amiga? Quizá se estén preguntando, ¿acaso no tenían algo mejor que hacer un viernes por la mañana?... no se, trabajar, lavar la ropa o los platos, renovar un pasaporte... ¿algo? NO. Considero el sonreír una prioridad (además ella salió temprano del trabajo y yo ya había lavado todos los platos... ¡aunque REALMENTE tengo que renovar ese pasaporte!... así que, bla, aquí van unas mamitas simples).

Romper Romance /Petos y Precioso

I walked into Zara the other day and by the time I left, I was sad. How depressing! Why should I feel bad because I can´t buy myself something beautiful? Why do I fall in love with something such as a piece of clothing? Is this a female trait? I asked myself all these things and then decided, as I have many times, to lift myself out of this state of self pity, and head straight to the fabric store.

Entré a Zara el otro día. Salí triste. ¡Que deprimente! ¿Porqué debería entristecerme por no poderme comprar algo hermoso? ¿Cómo es que me enamoro de algo como una prenda de vestir? ¿Es esto, acaso, una característica femenina? Me cuestioné todo esto y decidí, como hago muchas veces, levantarme de mi estado de auto-conmiseración e irme directo a la tienda de telas.

There I found this simple yet exquisite cotton rayon. It drapes beautifully and is SO soft! I bought only 1 yard, crossing my fingers and hoping this would be enough for what I had in mind: a romper for mamita. I made it!

Ahí encontré un rayón de algodón hermoso. Tiene una suavidad y una caída exquisita. Compré solo 1 metro y crucé los dedos, esperando que me alcanzara para realizar la idea que tenía en mente: un peto para mamá. ¡Lo logré!

Mini Dress for Mom / Vestido Mini para Mamá

Made me a mini dress! I used the same basic steps I posted in the "Mini Tunic Tutorial". It´s fun to see how one same pattern or tutorial, with very small changes, and totally different fabrics, can give you such different results. I love having things to choose from when I open my closet, the more the merrier (especially when I don´t go over my 3 dollar budget!).

Me hice otro vestidito! Usé los mismos pasos básicos posteados en el "Tutorial para Mini Túnica". Es facinante ver como, con un solo patrón o tutorial, ligeros cambios, y telas totalmente diferentes, puedes obtener resultados tan distintos. Me encanta tener de donde escoger cuando abro mi closet, cuanto más mejor (¡especialmente cuando no me paso de mi presupuesto de 40 pesos!).

Funnygirl Frock Dress

This dress is made with the same improv pattern used in the Mini Tunic Dress Tutorial (minus the small sleeves).

Este vestido fué hecho con el mismo tutorial improvisado del Tutorial Vestido-Túnica Mini (sin las pequeñas mangas).I simply added the ruffle and big big button on the front just to give the dress more of a frock feel...

Simplemente le añadí los bobos con el botonsote en el frente para darle un estilo más "frock"...

Funny dress for a funny girl who loves to dance (told ya she can´t sit still).

Vestidito chistoso para una nena chistosa que le encanta bailar (les dije que no se puede quedar quieta).

Rock n´Roll Ruffle Skirt! / ¡Falda de Olanes Roqueros!

Christmas Present #1:

Finally got down to it! And once again inspired by Dana from MADE (she is sooo amazing!) I went all out there. I broke the rules, as I´ve done waaaaay too many times in the past. And more often than I care to share, this rule bending and breaking ends in disaster, but this time I figured I´d risk it. So, Christmas is coming, and my sister, who´s a musician (and a pretty darn sexy one too), has always been begging for "Stage Wardrobe". So I went for a shaggy, frayed look with this "Rock n´Roll Ruffle Skirt" (inspired by Dana´s Turkey Skirt).

Regalo de navidad #1:

¡Al fin comenzé! Y una vez más, inspirada por Dana de MADE (¡ella es absolutamente increible!) lo aposté todo. Rompí las reglas, tal y como he hecho demaciadas veces en el pasado. Y más seguido de lo que quisiera admitir, este doblar y romper de reglas, termina en desastre, pero esta vez decidí arriesgarme. Así que se acerca la Navidad, y mi hermana, quien es músico (y una bastante sexy, debo decir), me ha estado rogando años por "Vestuario de Escenario" (rima, jijiji). Asi que encontré el look deshilachado y desfajado que estaba buscando en esta "Falda de Olanes Roqueros" (inspirada en la "Turkey Skirt" de Dana)

Where I live there is no such thing as chiffon that doesn´t fray, or much of anything for that matter. So I zig zagged the edges of the strips of chiffon (took forever), and even so, I´ve got big time fraying going on (good thing I was thinking street fashion!). Then I grabbed an old skirt, cut it up real short and started ruffling and sowing them in. I chose to give it something a little different by making thinner ruffled strips on top and making them thicker as I went down the skirt.

Donde yo vivo, no hay tal cosa como chiffon que no se deshilacha, ni mucho de absolutamente nada, debo admitir. Así que zig-zagué los bordes de cada tira de chiffon (me tomó una eternidad), y aún así tengo hilos por doquier (¡que bueno que tenía "street fashion" en mente al hacerlo!). Después agarré una falda vieja, la corté bastante corta (valga la redundancia) y comenzé a hacer los olanes y cocerlos a la falda. Decidí darle un toque diferente poniendo olanes más delgados arriba e ir haciéndolos más gruesos conforme bajaba por la falda.
