This is our home. I love it, but at times it has been hard to live here because it wasn´t built to be a home on it´s own (we built our little nest on the second story of my mom´s house). We´ve been changing it, little by little, over the years. But sometimes it has seemed too slow to bare.
About 6 weeks ago I woke up with a design in my head that would make our living room/kitchen area not only bareable, but lovely, requiring very little money! I got to work and started off by selling our old couch and center table. Then I designed a very simple wooden structure for the kitchen and a new living room. I payed off most of it with the money we made from the old yucky furniture, and sew the living room pillows and couch structure (washable and easy to maintain) myself. I then bought 1 box of tiles that matched the rest of the kitchen and dressed the top of the table. And even though there is still a lot to do, we´re comfy, cozy and happy. This is what our living and cooking area looks like now!
Este es nuestro hogar. Lo amo, pero han habido momentos donde vivir en el no ha sido fácil ya que no fue construido para ser una casa en sí (construimos nuestro nidito en el segundo piso de casa de mi mamá). Lo hemos ido cambiando poco a poco, a través de los años. Pero a veces ha sido demasiado lento para soportar.
Una mañana, hace como 6 semanas, amanecí con un diseño en mi cabeza que haría de nuestra área de estar y cocina un espacio, no solo soportable, sino lindo y con muy poco dinero! Me puse a trabajar, comenzando por vender nuestro sillón viejo y la mesa de centro. Después diseñé una estructura muy sencilla para la cocina y una salita nueva. Pagué la mayor parte de esto con el dinero de la venta de las cosas viejas y fuchis y yo misma cocí los cojines y la estructura de la sala (algo práctico y fácil de lavar). Después compré una caja de losetas que combinaran con el resto de la cocina y tapicé la superficie de la mesa. Aunque aún queda mucho por hacer, ahora tenemos un espacio acogedor y estamos cómodos y felices. ¡Así es como se ve nuestra área de estar y cocina ahora!

For me, the kitchen is the heart of our home. First of all, this is where I bake for my lovelies, and second of all, they love hanging around with me (which they could never do before because it wasn´t safe). But now they can sit on stools on the other side of the kitchen island and wait for the cookies to come out of the oven!
Para mi la cocina es el alma de nuestro hogar. Para empezar, aquí es donde horneo para mis hermosos, y en segundo lugar, les encanta estar alrededor de mi mientras lo hago (lo cual nunca podían hacer antes por razones de seguridad). ¡Pero ahora se pueden sentar en banquitos del otro lado de la isla y esperar a que las galletitas salgan del horno!
I love the informal, rustic feel to it all, and having my ingredients at hand makes cooking so comfortable
Me encanta la sensación informal y rústico del espacio, y tener los ingredientes al alcanze hace todo mucho más cómodo
Finally, I painted a piece of wood with black chalk board paint and nailed a vintage looking frame on top. I then nailed this to the side of the table to give it that kitchen island feel while giving the kids an extra area to be creative!
Finalmente, pinté una tabla con pintura negra de pizarrón y clavé un marco estilo "vintage" a las orillas. Esto lo clavé al costado de la mesa para otorgarle al mueble esa sensación de isla, dándole además a los chicos un espacio más donde expresar su creatividad!
